Sysmex: Enhancing Hematology Diagnostics Efficiency

Sysmex: Enhancing Hematology Diagnostics Efficiency

Ralph Taylor, CEO, SysmexRalph Taylor, CEO
“Celebrating 50 years of innovation in the hematology in vitro diagnostics testing market, we are driven to light the way with diagnostics,” explains Ralph Taylor, CEO of Sysmex America. Over the last five decades, Sysmex has created efficiencies in the diagnostic laboratory. Keeping the challenges of workforce shortages in mind, Sysmex is committed to finding solutions that increase productivity by reducing repetitive and mundane tasks. Supported by Sysmex’s solutions that offer extraordinary reliability, automation, and scalability, laboratory professionals can focus on complex tasks that improve patient care. The company’s solutions and tools automate and simplify analyzer calibration, training, and sample preparation.

Test results depend on the quality of the equipment used, and therefore it is vital to maintain accuracy and precision of an analyzer through quality control and calibration. Beyond Care Quality Monitor (BCQM) is an automated quality control system that reduces analyzer downtime by providing the laboratory with proactive monitoring and identification of potential errors. Continuous calibration verification and real-time peer comparisons reliably predict changes in the performance of the analyzer and prompt operators to perform proactive maintenance procedures. This capability decreases instrument downtime, preparing it to meet peak workload periods.

Leveraging Sysmex’s innovative technology, tests that once required a central lab can now be performed at the point of care. “Sysmex is the first hematology solution provider to achieve a CLIA-waived status for a three-part white cell differential analyzer,” states Taylor. As a CLIA-waived device, operation of the XW-100 does not require extensive training. Its intuitive design and easy-to-follow manufacturer’s instructions expand the ability of point-of-care staff to perform CBC testing. Making test results available during the office visit allows for more rapid evaluation of patients.
State of the art Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT)

Over the years, it has been a common practice for instrument manufacturers to follow a “train-the-trainer” model where one or two laboratory staff members attend off-site training, then are responsible for training their remaining staff. This style of training is time-consuming and only partially effective, as information becomes diluted and distorted as it is passed on. Sysmex’s proprietary Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) makes it possible to train lab technicians in their own laboratory along with their peers. Through VILT, Sysmex can live stream training to countless labs at once, providing instruction, demonstrations, and live Q&A to optimize the learning process. Additionally, technicians have the opportunity to practice what they learn with hands-on exercises performed on their own analyzers.

More than Hematology

Building on years of leadership in hematology, the Sysmex Urinalysis System* will be the first complete solution that provides integrated quality management and walk-away functionality—reducing the need for manual intervention and allowing more time to focus on patient results. Built on a modular approach, the urinalysis product line has the flexibility and scalability to adapt to each individual laboratory’s workload requirements. In addition, the Sysmex PS-10 Flow Cytometry Sample Preparation System** alleviates the primary bottleneck in today’s busy clinical flow cytometry laboratory, while providing unparalleled flexibility for the creation of complex, laboratory developed tests. Automated sample prep virtually eliminates operator-dependent variability while requiring less time on labor extensive manual processes. This Sysmex solution empowers laboratories performing leukemia and lymphoma testing. Flow Cytometry testing is further supported by the introduction of the Sysmex XF1600 flow cytometer, providing up to fourteen parameter analysis and a range of ASR and RUO monoclonal antibodies.

All of the top ten U.S. hospitals, eight of the top ten U.S. children’s hospitals, and nine of the top ten U.S. cancer care hospitals rely on Sysmex hematology solutions.***Sysmex America is lighting the way to better health with diagnostic solutions that transform the future of healthcare and contribute to healthier lives. Sysmex’s innovative hematology, urinalysis and flow cytometry technology is reshaping the world of diagnostics across the U.S., Canada and Latin America.
